Things To Take Into Mind When Buying A Shaving Brush

Now that you are ready to buy a shaving brush – whether it is your first or one of many – here are some things to take into account before you make your purchase.

Remember them, and they will help you find the right brush to meet your needs, as each function will be more or less important depending on what you are looking for in the brush to clean your precious little face.

size of shaving brush1- Size

The first consideration must be the size of the brush.

When it comes to shaving brushes, four sizes are essential.

1. Total length

Total length speaks for itself, right?

It is the length of the entire brush, including the handle and the hair.

Most brushes will be around five to six inches as an average.

2. Loft length

The loft length is much more a brush-specific measurement.

Usually, it will be at least 2 inches and up to 3.5 or 4 inches on the longer side.

But what does this mean for you?

Well, in practical terms, it just means that if you have facial hair that you maintain and want to shave, go for a brush with a smaller head size.

That gives you useful accuracy to place the shaving soap where you need it.

If you need a shave every morning, then a brush a larger head size would be ideal for you.

You offer the accuracy you don’t need and instead get speed, with the more massive brush head so that you can apply your shaving soap and foam much faster.

3. Knot or collar diameter

The knot diameter is the diameter of the base of the bristles where they are tied together.

Prices/Images/Reviews pulled from the Amazon Product Advertising API on: 05/02/2020 15:30 PM

The diameter depends on the actual amount of bristles in the brush, but this is not always entirely consistent because the density (i.e. how tightly they are tied together) can vary from brush to brush and from manufacturer to manufacturer.

The button diameter can vary from 19 – 30 mm, but the majority of the shaving brushes are between 20 – 24 mm, ensure a sufficient amount of bristles.

4. Handle length

The length of the handle does not have a concern, but some people with unusually large hands may prefer a more extended handle.

hair type of shaving brush

One of the most important criteria when choosing a shaving brush is the type of hair in the bush. And most types of shaving brushes come in four different types of hair: badger hair, boar hair, horsehair or synthetic hair.

We will discuss the pros and cons or any hair later in this post. In general, boar’s hair is the type of brush that you will find in many supermarkets and drug stores, while horses come from the tail of the horse or mane and make a comeback or shaving brush.

Just a note: harvesting badgers and boar bristles means killing the animal. If that’s a personal concern, it’s better to choose a synthetic or horsehair brush.

There are several tips for brush Form.

Traditionally, a fan or spherical style is most familiar with natural brushes, and the hybrid tip is standard with plastics.

I have a lot of difference in the ability to work up a beautiful deep foaming agent or the effectiveness of applying the soap or cream on my face.

Handle type Of shaving brush

The handle is of course not the essential part of the brush, if the most crucial part is, well … it is the brush.

That being said, don’t get yourself stuck with a weak quality handle if you want to enjoy your shave.

From a material point of view, you have everything from bone, fake bone, ABS plastic, acrylic, and wood.

The great thing about shaving brushes is that you can find one that suits every budget. A first-class Silvertip badger hair brush may cost as much as $ 150, while you can grab a good brush for only $ 10. Synthetic versions of quality can vary in price from $ 30 to $ 150.

1-Escali 100% Pure Badger Shaving Brush

As the name suggests, there is no synthetic brush in this brush; instead, you get 100% pure badger hair that is excellent for exfoliating your skin and preventing skin irritation.

If you have sensitive skin, use this brush with the right shaving cream, soap, and razor, all but an irritation-free shave.

Escali 100% Pure Badger Shaving Brush 1Not that all synthetic hairs are bad for your skin, mind you, but often weaker than tie and boar brushes and break easier.

Badger hair – exceptionally pure badger hair – is also hard to beat when it comes to producing a rich, creamy foam.

This brush has many other attributes that are worth mentioning, such as the price for a wallet.

Can pay much more for a shaving brush that is not as good as Escali’s 100% Pure Badger shaving brush (and you shouldn’t).

You will enjoy the foam that you get from the Escali Pure Badger shaving brush, and it doesn’t take much effort to produce it.

You can build a thick foam while the hairs quickly spread your favourite shaving cream or soap over your face, and the bristles do an excellent job of exfoliating the skin while releasing it from dead skin cells.

Like all quality badger hair brushes, the hairs of the Escali Pure Badger shaving brush hold and retain super water, They are not only super absorbent but also easy to rinse after your shave.

Another thing we like about this brush is the solid construction, and It has a natural wooden handle that fits comfortably in hand. You will also see how few bristles you lose over time, and It is a brush that lasts a long time.

Dr. Dan

I have used this brush for 4 years now and it is without a doubt the best value in shaving brushes. In my opinion you cannot find a finer brush for 4 times the cost. As others have said, when it was new, it was spiky and uncomfortable and quite often it stole hair. Irritability decreased after about 10 uses and although it occasionally sheds a hair, most stopped after the first year. I doubt even the finest brush ever sheds, and these minor inconveniences are well worth the low price. The handle is smooth and comfortable and every aspect of the fit and finish of this brush is excellent. Even after daily use for more than 4 years, the name "Escali" is not faded and the wood looks as good or better than when it was brand new. The foam production is excellent and my daily razor shave is reinforced by the fine foam that this brush produces. The brush is now beautifully soft and although I kept it "upside down" (with the bristles) for more than 3 years, the tuft is perfect (slightly fluttering as might be expected) and there is no degradation of the brush in any way. I recently purchased a stand so that I can store the brush well and I expect excellent performance of this fine product for a lifetime.

2-Omega Shaving Brush Boar Bristle Pro 48

This is a company with a long and well-earned reputation for producing professional shaving brushes.

Boar bristles produce a brush that is certainly not suitable for everyone.

They are rougher than the best badger brush, and not as long-lasting as a synthetic one.

However, they maintain a small but dedicated fan club that does not allow other material to touch their faces.

If that sounds like you or if you want to try out brushes for yourself, it is difficult to see what fits this selection of Omega.

Omega Shaving Brush Boar Bristle Pro 48 1First and foremost, you get the Omega quality, and that shouldn’t be sniffed at.

It means a well-designed brush with sturdy construction and top-quality materials – par for the Omega course.

A boar brush must also mean simplicity. That is at least the attraction of this type of brush for us.

This brush is everything we had hoped for. It’s simple, it’s modest, but it’s effective.

The handle, for example, is ABS plastic plated with chrome.

This provides a practical construction technique because the handle is light but sturdy and the chrome plating rises above the typical plastic entry-level models.

The hairs are top quality and entirely naturally grown wild boar.

The brush is soft but firm, the trademark of the boar brush.

This is a professional brush that will deliver results for you.

The last big bonus or pig is the price tag. You get a perfect quality brush for less than $ 20.

Questions & Answers

Are the boars wild or farm raised?

Bears are grown on the farm. Natural bristles of pig bristles actually come from a special type of boar that is only bred for hair. The bristles are carefully harvested using a process similar to the methods used for sheep shearing. The boar is exceptionally well cared for; their bristles are repeatedly harvested during their long lifespan.

Can anyone recommend a stand that will hold this brush?

I do not use a standard. Rinse and let it stand upright. No problem.

What stand do you use, this thing is so huge that it doesn't fit in my old one?

I actually bought a suction cup holder from Bed Bath and Beyond that sticks to the mirror. It cannot be used, but it contains both the brush and the razor.

Given the brush's size, I'm assuming it would fit into a typical razor/brush stand like Escali Deluxe. What is the best way to store it then?

I don't know what position it will hold. I just shake it dry, brush it a few times in a dry towel and place it upside down on the handle. The brush dries well at the end of the day.

Avatar Reviews Omega Shaving Brush #10048 Boar

You cannot beat this brush for this price. I am still a newbie and immediately got wet shaving with a nice $ 70 shaving brush with Badger Silver Tip and a good shaving soap with a high rating. I struggled to get good, rich creamy foam and was also a bit under-beaten with the silver tie brush because it seemed too soft for me. I was looking for more of a massaging brush, so after some research, I came across this Omega boar brush. I have read several ways to break it in and after 2-3 days to break it in and it seemed to be broken in as described in reviews, with split tips. I was immediately able to become much creamier later and it felt really good on my face. I was proud of myself because I felt that I was doing it where I struggled to get good foam with the more expensive silver tie brush. Maybe you just need more experience to foam in with a finer / softer brush. This omega is the perfect beginner's brush, albeit a bit broken, but followed the recommended walk-in procedure and everything will be fine in no time. Both boar brushes and silver badger brushes initially had that "wet dog" odor, although this boar brush was a bit stronger and needed 1-2 days longer to get rid of it, but put it in the soap and hot water and strong odor disappeared within 2-3 days. It's been 3 weeks now and it no longer smells like a jerk .. ๐Ÿ™‚ If you're on the fence to get a badger or boar, don't hesitate to start with this omega, especially for this price point, it's a great way to wet shave and all the reviews I read were from both new and experienced shavers that had nothing but good to say about this boar brush.

Avatar Reviews Omega Shaving Brush #10048 Boar 1

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this brush. I have had it for over two years now and I finally need a new one. The knot has remained strong and he doesn't lose much hair (that's why he lasted me more than two years! The smell was strong at first but I found it a REALLY good secret. If you buy some hunting bodywash and wash it a few times with it most of the scent is quickly thrown away. Once the scent has disappeared, it is a great brush. It foams well and exfoliates well. I also love how long the hairs are. This is my favorite brush after trying many, including tie.

Avatar Reviews Omega Shaving Brush #10048 Boar 2

Many reviewers here have stated that this brush has a strong odor (looking at the mass of 1 star reviews), and that is the case. There is a scent that comes out of the brush when wet, just like any other natural hairbrush product. I wouldn't go that far to say if it's a terrible odor, just one of the wet mammal. I'm not sure what you expect when you buy a cheap natural hairbrush, it will certainly not be the neutral-smelling synthetic brushes that most people use. Anyway, this is a good hard brush. It foams well, holds the water and soap well. The bristles feel good against the skin and are stiff enough to crawl into a beard and scrub the skin. Compared to the wild boar brush offered by the 'Art of Shaving' I would say that it is stiffer, about twice as big, and the better value so far (we'll see how well it was made in the coming months). This brush can also use the standard made for the aforementioned brush, because it seems to fit well.

Avatar Reviews Omega Shaving Brush #10048 Boar 3

I have heard many great things about this brand (Omega) and after using this brush for a few months and using it for quite a few shaves, I can see why. Firstly, I strongly recommend this brush for beginners. I have been using a safety razor for about 5 years (Merkur MK 23C) and I have been going through a brush almost every year. I have bought cheap at stores and even other highly rated here, but from this point I will never stray from Omega. The chrome-plastic look made me a bit uncomfortable for some reason, but it is easy to forgive when the quality of the brush and the natural boar hair shine through. This brush needs a bit of use before it is at its peak. The hair seems the first time you shave stiff and a bit rough on your face. I personally put my brush in a shaving bowl and let it sit close to me in the shower, fill it with hot water and stir it occasionally. By the time I finish showering, the hair has become softer and feels more comfortable. Fortunately, this brush barely fits exactly into the brush stand I already had (the Perfecto Deluxe Chrome Razor and Brush Stand). Generally there are many great brushes out there, but not many can beat the value for your dollar that you get with the Omega 10048.

Edwin Jagger Silvertip broad shaving brush is a general leader in the wide variety of badger hair brushes that the company produces.

Edwin Jagger Best Badger Shaving Brush With Drip Stand 1The quality of this specific brush lies in its silver-coloured badger hair and its faux ebony handle.

Questions & Answers

For those who have owned this brush for a while and use it daily, how is it holding up in the following two areas? 1-any bristle loss? 2-has the name/emblem inscription on the handle faded at all or does it look like it will last for the life of the brush? Thank you.

A few bristles sometimes come loose, but nothing looks like a badly made brush (that is, picking out several hairs every time). No wear of logo noticeable after 8 months.

Do the bristles fall out? I've had two other brushes that shed worse than a dog.

I have had this brush for a few months now and I only shave about twice a week. I have dropped only a few bristles, probably 5 or 6, that I have found stuck to my face or sink in the course of at least 40 or 50 shaves. This is my first brush, so I don't know if that is considered a lot, but so far I am very satisfied with the quality and durability of mine!

What is the handel width at its narrowest and widest points?

top of the handle 1 1/8 in, on conical 3/4 inch nice brush, good in the wash, soft enough

What is the stand made out of?

Plastic. Does what it needs.

I hope this helps someone who decides to shave seriously. It's simple, get a good brush and a good cake of soap. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars, just be wise and do some research. I stated with a cheap brush (about $ 7) and fell for some soap that some people make and sell from basic ingredients and perfumed oils, but they know NOTHING about shaving soap. First, when they try to tell you that you don't expect much foam from their soap, and that's normal, well .... it's just not true. You have to spend a little more and get a cake from a very good soap. I use Edwin Jagger soap in my mug and with the right brush you can get a lot of foam. The soap is around $ 8 here. Don't cut corners and try to save a few cents by buying nonsense soap. I recommend the Edwin Jagger traditional English best badger hair brush. Yes, it will cost you around $ 40, but it is worth every penny. More expensive, better quality badger brushes are usually too soft to work up a good foam, and cheaper hairs lose almost from day one, and you don't want them to come on your face if your razor just slides over it and doesn't shave you. It is also not necessary to use really hot water. It is not good for the brush. Nobody ever saw a tie take a hot bath, right? Regarding the rest of your "kit" which in my opinion is less important. I found a nice old mug on one of the auction sites. I love the Gillette brand 3 type for my razor. They seem to work well on my beard and are well priced. I can use one a month or more before replacing it with this combination of brush and soap. The bottom line is trust this English company that has been producing quality products for many years, they have a long tradition that they must adhere to and the prices here are reasonable. My only negative conclusion about this product is that the handle could be slightly longer. Another half an inch would make it much more comfortable to use in the cup and on your face.

Avatar Reviews Edwin Jagger Best Badger Shaving 1

My opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. I recently went "old school" and bought this item together with a double-sided razor (Merkur heavy duty) and Proraso soap. I am still learning to maximize foam. I started scrubbing my palm and then applying it to my face when the brush seemed to irritate my face a bit. Nothing serious, but my face would be redder after shaving if I applied the foam directly to my face with the brush instead of frothing it in my palm and then applying it by hand. Maybe the bristles are too stiff and I should have gone with a softer brush, but I didn't know. I also have a technical problem with the standard. Note that the stand holds the brush where the hair enters the handle. When the brush is returned to its standard, it always causes a pair or bristles to be pushed or moved. This will certainly cause the outer edges of the brush to lose their shape after a while or even break off a few bristles over time. I think it would be better if the standard were larger and the brush should hang on top so that the bristles are not touched. Otherwise I really enjoy the experience. It is a pleasant morning ritual.

This was actually a good brush, but in the end I gave it back. I'm new to soaping with a badger brush. I expected the bristles to be softer. These were a bit spiky and irritated my face. Not terrible, just not the smooth experience that I expected. The brush lost about 5 hairs with the first shave and still lost a few bristles with each shave. Maybe it was delayed in the end ... I only gave it 3 or 4 shaves, so I don't know if it's completely fair to say it has lost a lot of hair. Every new brush will probably do this. I brought it back for the Parker Silvertip, which is a softer type of badger hair and it was just a much softer, scratch-free experience. At the first shave it only lost a few hairs and after 3 weeks of use it only lost 5 extra bristles ... so I hope it will be a good brush. This brush was a bit stiffer and smaller than the Parker, so this might be better for some people.

4-Parker Safety Razor 100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Shaving Brush

The people at Parker have succeeded in making only the best products for wet shavers, and their Silvertip brush is as good as possible.

Made of pure silver hair from Silvertip – perhaps the best material for bristles in the world – this brush is incredibly soft and better than many brushes with a higher price tag (although it is in no way cheap). The bristles can hold large amounts of water, making it easier to work up a gentle foam.

The hairs at the top are lighter in colour and have a bright black band, and they require little break-in time compared to other children or brushes. They are soft but adamant, and you can expect years of service with this brush before it’s time to buy a new one.

Parker Safety Razor 100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Shaving Brush 1Like most of the top shaving brushes on the market, the Parker Silvertip has excellent exfoliating properties. It is also a good option if you have sensitive skin because of the soft hair.

The brush also has a low sanding speed, and you will experience minimal loss or hair loss after your first few uses.

The Parker Silvertip Badger brush is a proof of craftsmanship because it is handmade and you feel the quality when you hold it in your palm.

The handle has a comfortable length that is not too long or too short.

Another reason for appreciating this brush is that it comes with a chrome shaving brush that ensures proper drying and storage.

Some reviewers suggest that Parker Silvertip’s bun is a little “looser,” that is, higher on the handle than other shaving brushes, making it less suitable for aerosol creams. Why? Because part of the aerosol cream gets stuck in the bristles and never reaches your face.

I saw where someone asked if this "brush is pulling"? I wanted to upgrade my brush & wanted to know what this meant. Thank you!

I have been very satisfied with the Parker brush. The shape is attractive and I love the quality and construction. I don't quite understand how a brush might pull out if you arrange the action? I have been very satisfied.

Can the "Parker" logo be easily removed or is it imprinted onto the surface?

I suppose you could try to scratch it or use acetone, but it is stamped pretty well there.

Knight Cross

Before I begin my assessment, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Howie at Super Safety Razors. He kindly sent me an email explaining the maintenance procedure I should use for my new brush and telling me that he was open to any questions I could have about the product. I really appreciate his genuine concern for me as his customer. Let me begin by saying that I did not receive any form of compensation for this assessment. This is just my candid assessment of the product, and with more than 40 years of shaving experience, some men may find one or two of my comments worthwhile. At first glance, the brush has a very attractive appearance, as the faux handle and chrome base form a nice addition to my bathroom design. I found the weight of the handle striking. I appreciate having a brush with this kind of weight, because it feels very solid and masculine, fits comfortably in my hand and provides an easy application for shaving cream. I use this brush for about three months. In that time I only lost one hair. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that it emitted a minimal odor. In fact, the small odor had completely disappeared after a first shampoo treatment and a few initial applications. The bristles offer exceptional water retention properties so that I can quickly make a considerable shaving cream foam. If you use a very good shaving cream, you will find that the brush is able to hold substantial creams between the hairs from one shaving pass to the other. While I normally did a three-pass shaving ride, I was curious to see how much soap the brush could hold in the passes. Although I am not in favor of doing this regularly, I simply washed my face after the first pass and found that the brush contained enough soap to produce a smooth foam for the second pass. It was not an abundant foam, but certainly enough to hydrate the whiskers for the second pass. Of course I was quite impressed with the result. In general, I have to say that this shaving brush is an excellent product. Although there are various high-quality brushes on the market that cost considerably more money, the Parker brush offers considerable quality and value for this price. I am very happy with this purchase and am pleased to include this product in my daily shaving regime. After I have purchased the right shaving aids, including the Parker brush, I actually look forward to shaving every morning. I believe that any man who enjoys a superior shave will appreciate it if he owns this product. That's why I agree with other people who have rated this product and give the Parker Safety Razor 100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Faux Horn Handle shaving brush five stars.

This will probably be hard to believe, given the headline of the topic and the content to follow, but I was not forced or compensated in any way for this assessment. I have shaved myself with a safety razor for maybe the last two years, and never considered the brush so important. I saw brushes that sell for $ 16 or $ 20, which have reviews just as good as this one. And now that I've really tried a silvertip brush, I just don't know how people could do that. Don't get me wrong, the $ 16 or $ 20 brush is going to work, but not nearly as well. It is not nearly the same experience. First, those brushes are quite coarse, which can irritate your skin. The softness of this brush is incredible. The second problem with those other brushes is the absorption of water and soap. It is just like day and night. Those cheaper brushes actually make it easier to beat the soap in a nice foam, but that's because it simply mixes the water and soap and doesn't really absorb much of it. You have to make a few steps on your face to spread the soap. soap effective. This brush absorbed almost immediately, leaving much less water and soap in the bowl than I am used to. I really thought I had done something wrong, although I have completed this process enough times. It only took one step to get my face to foam. Honestly, if you can afford it ... and even if you can do it 'Take this brush. I have only used it twice, so I cannot comment on sustainability, but I hope that the money spent on it will be worth it in terms of how long the brush lasts. I will update this review if it seems like durability is poor after a few months of use ... not so important, in my opinion, is the handle itself. I mean, what you really want is that great silvertip badger hair, but I have to say that the handle itself is better than others. It has a pretty heavy feeling.

Avatar Reviews Parker Safety Razor - Faux 2

Great silvertip brush for a great price. A few remarks call it hairs, but in the beginning I just lost a few hairs and it has been pretty solid ever since. A few comments, however. When it arrived, it smelled like a wet dog and was dirty. It was really a very unpleasant odor. Like any new brush, you must wash it with shampoo before use. I actually had to wash this 2-3 times before I was willing to put it on my face. After washing it was clean and smelled good, not to mention the enormous bloom. The product photos do not do justice. I have attached a photo that shows the amazing bloom this brush now has after washing and using for a month. VAT, the standard on the photo is also a Parker standard, which it fits perfectly into. The chrome button on the end of the brush is clearly designed to work with this standard. A final note about the use. In addition to this brush, I also use Parker's synthetic brush. The handle is exactly the same, but the way the bristles hold soap is completely different and you need a slightly different technique. Das keeps the soap in the bristles while synthetic seems to repel the soap. You will notice that you use more soap with badgers than synthetic, because so much remains in the brush but it is softer on the face and you have no soap that drips out like you can with the synthetic. Bottom line, if you have an animal or vegan concern, the synthetic is a great option, but if you want to treat yourself to the best, go with this brush.

Avatar Reviews Parker Safety Razor - Faux 3

I have tried many shaving brushes and this brush is the best. The price cannot be right for a silvertip. It is very full and has a beautiful backbone. Cares for my soaps and creams with ease. It has a large coverage area, so you can quickly scrub my face. It is large, like a large, flowering onion! Hang it to dry, even if it is on its chromed base.

It doesn’t have heat and water retention or real Silvertip, but frankly, it’s not far away, and that’s no more than a synthetic brush.

It also looks great. They did very well or modelled the appearance of Silvertip.

The handle is also a traditional style, while it is made from solid but dull acrylic that the tip of a Swedish alloy looks excellent and adds stability to the brush while resting on the countertops.

So what we were looking at when we started reviewing this brush or it could be a substitute for a Silvertip brush.

The truth is that it’s not as good as a real, utterly natural brush.

However, it’s not too far away, and with a price tag that’s probably about half of what you would expect for a natural brush, this is certainly a very intriguing option.

Questions & Answers

Is it real, authentic badger hair, or synthetic hair?

It is authentic badger hair. Vikingsblade.com breaks the brush pretty well.

Does the tube travel well or is it just for packaging. Looking a brush that will travel well.?

Yes ... make sure it is dry ... if it is damp, I pack it before I put it in the tube. I travel a lot with my work and use the tube everywhere I go

Dark stallion or white knight? anyone have a preference or a reason to buy one over the other?

I only have a dark stallion. I'm sure they are about the same. Very soft. Lathers great and very easy to clean.

Which brush is stiffest?

I only have this one, but I really enjoyed it. Virtually no loss, firm but not spiky on the skin, builds a nice foam.

REVIEW UPDATE 3/12 / 17 I was contacted by Julian van Vikings Blade. Apparently there was a very small chance that I received a brush from the old stock. These brushes have been upgraded and a new and improved batch came from Nov. 2016. I was explained that the old batch was removed and replaced with the new version, but somehow I could have used one of the old versions. My purchase came with a 30-day warranty, so I was offered a free replacement, but I was told that if I was looking for the "silvertip-soft feel", the "White Knight" synthetic brush was the better choice. Julian explained how great these brushes are, made from high-quality synthetic fibers that absorb and retain water better than real badgers, plus firm hair and the tips soft, better, much better than the badger version. I was a bit hesitant to take a synthetic one. I have a few brushes in badgers, pigs and horses, but I don't really like fake brushes. I was convinced that I would love it, so I went for the synthetic version. The brush arrived the next day and man! what i was missing! This brush is not only beautiful in ivory color, but the fibers look great with the white tip and they feel softer than the real silo tip IMO. The same day I used the brush with Arko soap and face foam for my shave, this brush worked like a champion. The knot has a backbone and the ends are soft and soft. The brush was greased very quickly and contained enough foam for my 3 passes. At the end, the brush was easy to clean, dried quickly, and retained its new shape. I used it again a few days later, but this time I wanted to know how good it will be to foam it with hard soap. Well it did great and just like my natural ties, the foam got pretty fast with minimal effort and enough foam to hold for 3 or more passes. If you are like me and have never tried a synthetic before, try it because you are missing out. This is a great brush, it will perform very well and it will give your bathroom a distinctive look. I include photos of my cup foam before, during and after shaving. I hope you find this long review informative and help you decide. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Me was thinking that I would rate 4 stars, but I had to be more honest in my review as this helps other buyers and even Vikings Blade by considering things. The good thing: the handle is just beautiful! Black obsidian acrylic with the alloy basic combination ensures that this handle looks and feels luxurious. The handle is heavy and comfortable to hold, you can feel quality that sets this brush handle aside for the others. The logo in the alloy is fantastic and adds an extra touch of quality. Made in Australia. The Bath: The tie knot does not meet this quality level of the handle. This badger hair is short and feels cheap and scratchy. My new quality horse brush from Vie-Long and premium pig brush from Semogue feels softer and offers better foams! That is supposed to be a class above horse and boar, but this tie is just inferior to my other brushes. This button has no backbone, it is difficult to foam because there is minimal to no backbone. The brush also splits / opens around your face. I will recommend Vikings Blade to go one step higher and change these knots with quality badger hair knots (best tie or super tie) but if they want to keep the "best tie" line and current price and then change these button suppliers. Another great option for these good looking levers is to turn them into SUPER quality boar and horse knots, but only if they can get the best, if they put cheap ones on, they will get the same result. shaving products for a good price, but only needs some improvement.

I have done wet shaving before, but with my father's brush. His brush fell apart. Bristles always came out, water leaked like a sieve and it was WAY too soft. The few times I dared to shave wet, it was cut off and I am pretty sure it all had to do with my father's brush. Years later I decided to give wet shaving again and I chose this brush. Although it has been a long time since I used my father's terrible brush, I still remember all the problems I had with it. This brush had none of these problems. It keeps water EXTREMELY good. If you give it a quick movement with your wrist, you will get a lot of free water in a quick movement. It is also soft, but not too soft. In my opinion, this is the most important thing. If you look like me and you have rough hair, you want the ends of the bristles to be a bit stiff so that you can process the foam in all corners and holes. If the tips are too soft, most of the foam will simply fall on the hair instead of underneath (where it really should be), because the hair cannot push your hair out of the way. If you look for a shaving brush I think this is a good choice.

* EDIT * (01-20-18) I have had this brush for more than a year. I use it several times a week, sometimes twice a day and it is still going well. I lost a few hairs last year, but it has been FEW. I posted pictures with what it looks like after a year. The logo is a bit faded and the lower metal part has a few Sratches where I occasionally get up but no rust spots. I do not dry the handle after use, I just hang it on the air. This is one of the largest investments you can make in keeping. I put this thing through a beating. It is a tank of a brush and I see myself using it for many years to come. Good quality great shaving quality. (12-30-16) I have been working on law enforcement for a few months and wanted to upgrade Van Der Hagan. I spent weeks in the brush market and saw Viking's Luxury Badger Brush off the fence until I finally understood and bought it. When I pulled the brush out of the cylinder package, I immediately felt the high quality and knew that I had made the right decision. It has a nice weight and the tie is nice and soft. As I indicated earlier, I wanted to try something different than the VDH brand. Glad I first chose Vikings. I would probably have spent a lot more money on other brushes to finally find out that the best for a low budget was made by Vikings Blade. It is beautifully made and feels so good on the face. The brush also fits nicely on the Perfecto Deluxe standard. I really recommend this brush if you are just starting to wet shave, wet shave for years or are looking for a new brush of excellent quality for a great price. I will definitely have to look at the other products of this brand one day.

I didn't think shaving the razor could be better. But it did with this brush. My old brush lost hair that I think every day for the three or four years I owned it. I think this brush, even with the break in the period, lost two hairs in the previous month. It has a great foam and just works great. Definitely a great buy for the money.

MœHLE has been in the shaving industry since 1945. Passionate experts with a passion for high-quality products possible.

M¼hle in translation can mean a mill or a milling machine and the pioneering family of Hans Muller chose an appropriate and work-related windmill design logo for their products.

While they make wet shaving products, they also sell body care and beauty products.

They are also committed to the environment and sustainability and work with suppliers who adhere to the same standards.

M¼hle €“ Silvertip Shaving Brush Chrome Metal 1Silvertip shaving brush from M¼hle is made of the best materials in combination with craftsmanship that is hard to match.

This silvertip brush has luxurious badger hair and a giant bun size that ensures fuller and broader strokes when foaming the face.

Foaming is more effective because of the spherical attic or the brush, which helps to raise and enlarge the build-up of foam in a shaving bowl.

The chromed, specially crafted handle is made with a copper core, then nickel-plated and finally refined in galvanised chrome with non-slip engravings that help prevent hand exits.

One user just said that “the chromed metal handle is just great, great craftsmanship, great workmanship, and great weight; it feels very comfortable in my hand when knocking a foam.”

I recently bought this brush and couldn't be happier with how it performs. The anecdotes about badger hairbrushes that smell a bit funky seem to be true based on my experience. That was easily remedied by simply putting him in the shower for the first few days and shampooing and then shaving. I think the last brush that I had was low-boiled boar's hair, and it seemed to take a little before it foamed properly. Because of that experience, I also expected a break in the period with this brush. After the third day of use it still seemed "to break in" and I got my best foam so far using shaving soap in a small tin hoist. I was shocked when I saw some guys complaining about hair loss in other reviews, but that's not the case for me. I haven't seen a single hair yet and hope it stays that way. I see that the knots are handmade in the factory in Muhle, so hopefully they have trained the man who had made that party and gone further. I also saw some other boys complaining that the handle was a little slippery when wet. When the water alone is not very bad, but when you get a good foam that drips from the gland, the handle does not give much grip. This is easily remedied by just being a little more careful when whipping and applying foam to the face. I also think I saw a few complaints about the width of the node. It's a bit smaller than the node on my last brush, but I don't mind at all. Many videos from the experts on YouTube show that the experts cut the knot between two fingers to apply professional foam to the upper lip without filling the nostrils. Due to the smaller button width on this brush, that is no problem at all for me. At the end of the day it is all about the function for me, what the foam player is ... and it is beyond dispute that this brush creates a great foam. I hope this review helps someone, and I would buy this product all over again!

One of the best manufacturers of shaving brushes in the world. This brush is very well made. Soft, strong and don't drop. It is a heavier brush thanks to the chrome-plated brass handle. It will flower with first and second use, making it a bit larger than the photo. If you can afford it, I think it's worth the price. Make sure you stand and make sure and it lasts a long time.

I have had this brush for over a year and a half and it is FANTASTIC. I chuckle at some of the critical reviews ... "it smells like badgers". Uh, yes, it's a real tie. The odor disappears after a few weeks. That is how all real tie brushes work. if you don't like real ties, buy synthetically. But for me this is the Rolls Royce of shaving brushes. I will order another one in about 8 years or so.

you would be hard pressed to find a better brush. Thick, soft and whips into a large foam. No offensive odor and it cleans excellent. I have only seen 2 or 3 hairs since you have experienced it in the last 4 months.

7-Semogue 620 Superior Boar Bristle Shaving Brush

You may have never heard of Semogue, but the Portugal-based company has long been a leader in the brush industry. With more than 60 years of experience, it is no surprise that his Semist 620 Superior boar brush with a shaving brush is a valued possession in many men’s care kits.

If you are a part of the trend or prefer a law shaving experience, the Semogue 620 will help you make the best of it. It is a handmade brush that looks great and delivers superior performance with every shave.

We like it for many reasons, including making a considerable amount of foam without lesser irritation or shaving brushes. Boar’s hair bristles are more numerous than many brushes, and you get the kind of foam you want, whether you use shaving cream or soap.

Like other boar brush brushes, there is some running-in time with Semogue 620, but not that long. If it is completely broken in, you only need to heat it in hot water 10 to 15 minutes before shaving. The ends of the brush become very soft and retained water, unlike some other brushes.

The Semogue 620 also has sturdy construction with a strong backbone. The handle, made of acrylic, has a good balance and easily fits in your hand. In the meantime, the full pig boar is a hero in place with a sterling ring – which adds to the overall attractiveness of the brush.

Questions & Answers

Will this brush fit into a stand with 27mm opening?

What is the best stand for it? Will it fit into an "average" stand.?

The 22mm button emotion fits most standards because it is a smaller button and will eventually rest on the handle. Or make sure it is not a standard that is smaller than a 22 mm node. Here is one that should work well. http://www.amazon.com/Chrome-Shaving-Super-Safety-Razors/dp/B0098NPUGY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421032510&sr=8-2&keywords=22mm+knot+brush+stand

Is this brush bigger or smaller then the 610 ?

Exactly the same size and the same handle shape. Kind regards, The Portuguese Factory

What is the best stand for it? Will it fit into an "average" stand.?

The 22mm knot semogue will fit most stands since it is a smaller knot and ultimately it will rest on the handle. Or just make sure its not a stand that is for smaller than a 22mm knot. Absolutely wonderful brush. I was torn about which Semogue brush I would buy: this 620 or the 830. I love the appearance of the striped bristles; I am more a badger brush than a boar, but I had heard great things about Semogue and Omega leaves something to be desired for me. The 620 has a good piece as a backbone, and I prefer a brush that splashes out like the 830 (from what I understand). This 620 makes quick work of soaping soaps and creams, either on the face or in a bowl. I prefer to foam soap directly in the face and I enjoyed the extra resistance of this brush. The handle is perfect; Semogue must have studied this for a while, because it is just the right fit for my hand. I have noticed that many boar brushes have fairly long hair and sometimes do not sit on a single brush stand without touching the bottom of the stand. This brush is long but not so long that it touches the bottom of the stand. Large brush !!

Practical Desk

This shrinking brush is an absolute foaming machine that produces hills for moisture-rich foam. I notice that the key ensures that the brush has sufficient 'brewing time' before it is added to your favorite soap. I use cake soap, lately it is Van Der Hagen Deluxe; and this brush loves this soap and the soap reacts to this softer cake soap. I tried the brush on Mitchell's Wool Fat and Arko, they work well with the 620, but VDH produces a superior foam and it is reasonably priced; however, all these soaps are not as good as LaToja shaving sticks (see last paragraph). A good brush injection results in an enormous volume of foam. I put a full layer of foam, after which I see foam to get those stubborn areas as parts of my lower neck. I have had expensive silver badger brushes and many boar brushes; but this is my selection. I love the total size and loft; and the handle has the best profile ever. Through the loft I can push the whole brush into my face while soaping, which makes for a good scrub; and I can also 'paint' with it if I choose. I prefer a swirling motion where I push the entire loft into my skin. Love, love, love this brush. I have had many bear brushes from Semogue and Omega; and of the many Semogues and Omegas I have had, this is the best. Yes, I will take this brush over a silver-colored tie because of its performance and feel. Wet shavers have their preferences; and for this wet shaving gel a 620 and LaToja shaving stick deliver wet shaving Satori. LaToja together with a 620 makes the best shaving soap. If you compare the 620 with a Semogue 1438, I prefer the feel of the 620 knot and better quality bristles. And for my second pass, after the long growth was just shaved, the 620 keeps foaming on smoother skin.

8-GBS Premium Men’s Shaving Brush

The first thing you notice about this product is, of course, the fact that it is a kit.

With the amount of equipment in this set, you get value for money.

So before we start looking at the brush (what do we stand for, what are we all for?)

What do we have?

Prices/Images/Reviews pulled from the Amazon Product Advertising API on: 02/02/2020 01:10 AM

GBS Premium Men’s Shaving Brush 1Well, a badger hair brush with a stand, a ceramic soap cup, and a 4 oz. Block of shaving soap.

Let’s start with the shaving soap bowl because we are honestly like it.

It is a traditional design with a horizontal side-mounted handle and a sturdy and attractive ceramic construction.

It is the type of accessory that can offer years of useful service, making it worth the money.

The soap that comes with it is at least a 7 out of 10. It’s okay, but there are certainly better soaps.

Don’t worry, though; you don’t buy this kit for the soap.

Use it once or twice and then replace it with a better soap for a few dollars.

The brush is, of course, what we are here for, and it is worth it.

It is badger hair, which is always great to see.

It is lower quality or brush, probably a pure hair grade.

That said, Pure quality badger hair is still a better material for shaving brushes than what you’ll find in many other rival brushes.

Add to the high-quality cup and a convenient small storage standard, and you have a premium shaving brush set that also represents extraordinary good value.

Using this instead of shaving cream gives much better shaves and less irritation, even with a standard mach3 razor. I will never buy shaving cream again. Update: It was almost a year and a half since this was used and the soap has just run out, talk about getting your money.

The great setting brush must first be cleaned because the brush hair will fall out. The brush is OK. The bristles are soft and give a good foam. I have disposed of a fair amount of it. The cup is very solid and has a great size. The soap doesn't get the foam that you want, but it's a good price for $ 25.

9-Frank Shaving Pur-tech Synthetic Hair Shaving Brush

A little later we dig in synthetic shaving brushes, but a few things to think about:

Synthetic brushes are an excellent alternative to shaving brushes that use animal hair and are therefore considered “animal-friendly”.

Quality of synthetic brushes compared to their animal hair counterparts produces much debate. Synthetic fabrics generally do not guarantee the kind of respect in the shaving community as animal hair brushes, perhaps because they do not feel so natural.

The Pur-Tech brush is also sturdy and comes with a black handle that fits comfortably in hand. Your hand. It works well with shaving soap because it requires more water, but also with shaving foam.

Yes, synthetic brushes require more water than animal hair brushes, but you also don’t need synthetic brush hairs, such as animal hair brushes. Moisten it and start shaving.

We also like how the Frank Shaving Pur-Tech brush spreads the foam on your face; the bristles spread just the right amount to create an even shaving base and, as said, they feel soft on your skin.

At around $ 30, the Pur-Tech synthetic brush is not cheap, but not too expensive either. Moreover, the brush comes with a free shaving position. Frank Shaving – which also produces badger and boar hair brushes – is committed to cost-effectiveness.

Questions & Answers

This comes with a stand. Is it reccomended to hang this brush in the stand in order to dry? I am buying this for travel and will put away wet.

The short answer is that you do not have to use the standard. The long answer is that it makes no difference whether you hang the brush with the pointed hairs down, or let it rest on the base with the hairs up. I have seen tests that use moisture-detecting instruments to prove that this is true. In addition, synthetic fibers do not absorb water, so you can shake the brush well after use and throw it away. I suppose if you leave the brush in a damp, sealed container for a long time, this may lead to mold or bacterial build-up, meaning you want it to dry when you get home.

What is the knot size and loft?

about 20 mm knot, loft 40 mm

Where is this brush manufactured? Don't want Chinese thanx

Yep - Not enough of us are willing to pay more for ours. But Muhle may make his own synthetic hair. I know that they had previously processed them in Germany. I have ordered one according to my specifications. I am very happy with that and strongly recommend it, even with more than double the costs of the Pur-tech!

Okay, this brush is decent. I give it 4 stars because it is of great value. The node is the same v2 fiber that Muhle uses. I have the Muhle XL 25 mm knot v2 silvertip fiber and while the small Frank brush cannot compete with the large Muhle, it does great with creams and croaps. This brush stays in my pocket and travels with me. It dries quickly and has a fairly good backbone. If you are a new wet shaver or are looking for a synthetic knot to try, I think this brush can work for you.

I am not the world's expert on wet shaving. I recently restarted after a lapse of maybe 25 years. I decided to get a new brush, although the old one (tie) still works. I could not understand why synthetic would not work, so I tried this. It works well and maybe better than my old brush. Made a nice thick foam. I think most non-experts are satisfied with this product. Fancy badger brushes are expensive and somewhat temperamental if they are not properly cared for. A bit like live badgers.

I love this brush. Extremely soft and good in the skin. Over the years I have usually been a badger brush and I must tell you that this brush is fantastic! It is not necessary to soak in water for 10 minutes before shaving. Simply moisten it, squeeze it out and start whipping your shaving cream. Dries very quickly. Now that I have just started with traditional wet shaving (i.e. brush and DE-razor EJDE89BL), I must first say what an amazing shaving experience has become. I first bought the Van Der Hagen brush, bowl, soap from Wal-Mart for $ 8.60. and really enjoyed shaving. When I did some research online, I naturally found the silver tip of Badger hair to be considered the Roll-Royce of brushes, but what is the ultimate goal? It is to make a rich creamy foam, or am I missing something? Will a silver tip make a foam faster? Maybe, but is it worth 15-20 seconds to be worth an extra $ 50.00 to $ 150.00 more? Not for me. This brush does the work it is supposed to do and feels beautiful on the face. I would not only recommend this brush to a friend, I will give it 5 stars for you.

Just because a product is introduced as an entry-level model does not mean that it is of lesser quality than premium models, at least in terms of design.

Yes, some compromises have been made to lower the price.

For example, the brush material here is not the high-quality plastic we saw on the Vikings Blade product, we have looked above.

That said, it’s still a working brush head material.

Prices/Images/Reviews pulled from the Amazon Product Advertising API on: 02/02/2020 23:50 PM

It is beautiful and soft with good water and heat retention.

It’s not quite in competition or, for example, a Silvertip badger brush, but then not the price tag either.

Haircut Shave Co- Synthetic Shaving Brush 1What you do get is a simple but effective brush.

We especially liked the handle.

It not only has a simple and attractive Barber-inspired design, but it also works well.

Ergonomic and comfortable, designed to feel good in the hand.

Also so much more significant than many other handles, so if you have larger hands or feel more comfortable with a full-size grip, that can undoubtedly make this shaving brush more attractive.

Makes no sense that this is a premium product; the price tag only shows that it cannot be accurate.

But when we talk about that price tag, this is still a perfect brush that delivers an excellent foam for a very, very reasonable price.

If you are looking for a new shaving brush with a limited budget, this is one of the best shaving brush there is.

Most of the reviews I read said the brush was too soft to whip up a good foam. I don't have that problem, it works great. I bought this because I was tired of my other brush loss every time I touched it. This brush has shed exactly 3 hairs, and that was with the first use. It is now 4 weeks ago, no loss at all. The negative is that the brush is shaped differently than normal brushes, so your current position may not work. Update December 15, 2018. I bought this at the beginning of July this year. The shedding has almost stopped and my brush is still full. I lost maybe 10 locks of hair. I can still easily absorb a foam. Still a great brush to date.

UPDATE 06/30/2019: A year later and I do not believe that one hair has fallen out. I have become used to the softness of the bristles, and now my old tie brush feels terrible! Follows is my original review: the brush seems to be very well made and I have not lost any bristles. The handle is heavy and feels good and the colors are clear - it is a beautiful brush [colors of the hairdresser's pole] A few unexpected features, this is my first synthetic brush, including that the brush really holds a lot of water and that the bristles are extremely soft. Although these may be desirable functions, the excess water can be difficult to shake, and I am used to the stiffness of a budget tie brush and the control that stiffer bristles give me. The brush can dry all day in a standard. I notice that I have to foam the soap much longer to get close to the thickness of the foam that I used to get. That said, the soft hair feels pleasant on the face. I think I get used to this brush, but it is a big change for me. Please note that the shipment was delayed for unknown reasons, so don't count on it if needed in a hurry, for example for an upcoming trip, or a gift in a hurry.

The brush I used was a starter brush and the hair kept coming out and was very annoying. I wanted a brush that the hairs would not come out and this brush did it. No hair has come out of this brush and it comes together nicely for a nice shave. The brush also has a good-sized handle that makes it easy to hold. I think the barber poll also looks cool. I am not an expert in shaving brushes, but I really like this one.

How To Use A Shaving Brush

A shaving brush is a great first step to an excellent shave.

But just like with any other tool, you need to know how to use it correctly to get the best results.

Fortunately, it’s straightforward to get everything out of your brush, especially if you follow us handily.

1-Use the Right Shaving brush

The first phase is to make sure you have the best shaving brush for you.

If you read this guide and your brush holder is empty, we recommend that you go back and start over and use our product manual to choose the right brush for you.

2-Make the brush wet

Once you have your brush, the next step is the same as the end or date night with your other half – you need to get it wet.

This is because the amount of moisture on the brush is not an art, and some people prefer a dry brush; others prefer slightly more humidity.

Let it run under hot running water or soak it in a shaving bowl to soften the hair.

Both methods are fine.

Keep in mind that at this stage, the wetter is the brush, the more foam you will create in your shaving bowl, so it comes down to personal preference.

3-Building up a foam

If your brush has the moisture content you like, it’s time to bring your favourite shaving soap or shaving cream.

In our humble opinion, the best way to work up a luxurious and luxurious foam is to use a shaving bowl.

Do not try to do it on your face with a soap paste on the hair that is a way to irritated skin.

Shaving bowls have always been around because they are the best way to build that foam.

If it’s not broken, do it, so take your shaving bowl out now.

Once your foam well, work in your shaving area (also known as your face).

Use circular movements so that you apply a nice layer of foam and lift hair and stubble.

This helps the razor to glide smoothly over your skin and also makes your hair and stubble easier for the knife to cut.

5-Shave and reapply

As soon as you have been applied, it’s time to shave. – Re-apply as needed to get over the areas of your face with different angles to achieve that smooth shave for the baby.

6-Clean and maintain your brush

if your look is clean or hair, it’s time to finish the cleaning routine by taking care of your brush.

Fortunately, our next section is about doing it correctly, so read how to clean and maintain your shaving brush.

Take A Closer Look At The Types Of Shaving Brushes

The Types Of Shaving Brushes

We are lucky that we are living in an era where there are more options for shaving brushes than ever before. Synthetic materials are a big reason why, but hairbrushes are just as dominant as ever (and the choice of many, many wet shavers).

Let’s discuss the different types of material used to make the bristles or a shaving brush:

1. Boar Hair Brushes

Boar brushes are the least expensive and most common type of shaving brush today.

Also known as “Pure Bristle” or “Natural Bristle”, hairbrushes are comparable in price to synthetic brushes and offer a foam that you probably won’t get with a non-animal hairbrush.

There are several disadvantages with boar brushes

  • the bristles are harder and more prone to breakage than badger or horsehair brushes.
  • They don’t retain water like other brushes.

However, it is worth noting that the brushes or a brush become softer during use.

2. Badger Hair Brushes

Badger hair brushes are not only the oldest type of shaving brush – you have enough options if you are looking for an antique shaving brush that you want to repair – but also as the best option for wet hair shaving.

They are excellent for sensitive skin, they produce superior foam, and you have four types of badger hair brushes to choose from:

1-Pure badger hair

A pure badger hair brush is the lowest quality and least expensive brush of its kind. The bristles have a dark brown colour and come from the belly of the tie.

However, cheaper means no less, because many wet-shavers prefer this type or wave other hairs. The bristles are soft but not too sweet.

2-Best badger hair

The next step up is the best badger hairbrush. The brush is a bit larger, and the brush has a lighter colour (than pure badger hair), while the softness is excellent.

3-Super badger hair

The bristles are even softer on a super badger hairbrush than the previous two types and quality is almost as good as it gets.

4-Silvertip badger hair

Silvertip bristles are as good as it gets when it comes to badger hair. It comes from the neck of the tie, where the hair is incredibly soft and harder to find because it is only obtained during the winter when the nose has a silver shade. Most Silvertip shaving brushes are handmade and can cost $ 100 – and more.

3- Horse Brushes

Horse brushes are harder to find than other types but are preferred by many wet shavers in Spain – which produce the best scrubs of this type.

Horsehair is softer than wild hair but not as smooth as badger hair. Although the majority of horsehair bristles are stiffer than other types, the ends are pleasantly mild.

4.-Synthetic Brushes

Synthetic shaving brushes have come a long way, honey. Made from synthetic materials (think of nylon). Although many of the kinks associated with synthetic brushes have been worked out over the years, users still complain that they do not retain water as well as brushes made from animal hair.

Synthetic hairs are also often stiffer than other types and can peck and poke your skin.

If you want to go through the traditional barber-like experience from your home, you need to collect a few tools. A shaving brush is an important part here, and there are few concepts you need to understand, such as stiffness or material of the hair, but it’s relatively simple if you have the basics.

We hope you have found the best shaving brush. After all, an informed shopper is the best shopper. And as always, we are happy with your comments, suggestions and general feedback.
