If you want to get rid of this annoying problem once and for all, the best dandruff shampoo for men can help, but it can cost some groceries.
Dandruff has several causes: dry skin, product accumulation, and fungal infections.
Have you seen a fair share of the products that flakes on their promises to get rid of dandruff? After you have squeezed the bottle after a bottle of shampoo with no result, you may even wonder if there is anything that prevents the shimmering white sprinkles on your scalp, shoulders, and everywhere else.
This is the deal: Seborrheic dermatitis, the medical term for dandruff, is caused by a yeast that installs your scalp. Before you panic – everyone has it!
However, if there is too much yeast, it leads to irritation and inflammation and eventually to peeling off dead skin cells – that is, dandruff.
Dandruff can be one of the most frustrating and confidence-inspiring skin problems that many men probably encounter in their lives.
If you want to have a first impression of date or job interview, want to go out with friends or whatever the social scene is, you do not have to worry about dandruff
The best treatments have active ingredients that focus on symptoms and combat various possible causes.
If you are not sure where to start, this guide can help you choose the best dandruff shampoo for men

What Is The Primary Cause For Dandruff?
When investigating what causes dandruff, it mainly ends up in five primary buckets as described by Mayo Clinic:
Irritated &Oily Skin
The most popular case of dandruff will appear irritated or easily oily skin.
The primary symptoms of an irritated or oily skin are a scalp that is red and itches.
This type of dandruff shampoo is very similar to psoriasis, eczema, or just skin rash – while seborrheic dermatitis has the same characteristics, seborrheic dermatitis is its unique skin problem.
When it comes to seborrheic dermatitis, the medical community, unfortunately, did not fully identify the cause of the prevalence.
They think, however, that it is a broad mix of external environmental factors, such as stress, genes, the weather, medicine, to name a few.
The main takeaway for this type of dandruff is that it is not due to allergies or hygiene. Therefore extra showers, soaking longer in the water, deeper scrubbing, this dandruff will not heal.
You need an especially best dandruff shampoo for men to solve the problem.
Lack of hygiene
In contrast to the above cause, the frequent reduction of shampoo caused by your hair will cause an extreme build-up of both oils and skin cells.
This build-up will eventually start to flake and finally get the appearance of dandruff.
If this is your scenario, you do not need to invest in the dandruff shampoo described below, but you want to buy an ordinary over-the-counter shampoo and wash thoroughly at least every few days.
If you already wash regularly, check the type of soap you are using.
With the recent rebound in men exploring all-natural options to wash and condition their hair by following do-it-yourself recipes on the internet, it is possible that there are not enough surfactants and cleansers to get your hair completely clean.
Therefore, if you use a shampoo that is not sold in stores or one that might be trendy, do not forget to go back a minute to read the label and to see if there are cleaning agents in it.
Malassezia (mushroom) grows on your scalp
Another common cause of dandruff can be Malassezia.
This type of dandruff is unique because it does not necessarily have to do with hygiene or only with skin irritation, but it is a living fungus that stays on your scalp, which quickly increases the production of skin cells.
To combat Malassezia, you usually want to use two different dandruff shampoos.
By using a single type of dandruff shampoo, the fungus can build resistance to the solution, ultimately overcoming its effectiveness and appearing dull.
Take care to take shampoo with zinc pyrithione because it contains fungicides.
More often, in the colder winter months, when the air is arid, and the heaters are at full speed, a simple case of dry skin can cause flakes to appear.
This applies to you if your dandruff is seasonal only.
One of the best ways to cure this type of dandruff is to use a quality shampoo (not a rosin-specific shampoo), along with a conditioner that will keep your skin and hair follicles on natural hydrates and feeding.
Look back in this scenario when your dandruff has started and replaced the product with an alternative to see if dandruff continues to exist – in this scenario, you should not have a dandruff shampoo specifically designed for men.
10 Best Dandruff Shampoo For Men
The following ten best dandruff shampoo for men helps to relieve that burning sensation in the scalp, reduce the appearance of those white flakes in your hair and help suppress the need to scratch your scalp throughout the day.
Seborrheic dermatitis is something that you will hear a lot in every assessment of anti-dandruff shampoos. After all, it is one of the most common causes of dandruff.
The Head & Shoulders Clinical Strength Anti-Dandruff Shampoo focuses directly on the problem of Seborrheic dermatitis and the itchy, flaky, and irritated scalp that comes with it. It relieves symptoms while those annoying white flakes disappear.
The main active ingredient in this shampoo is 1% selenium, which combats the fungus caused by seborrheic dermatitis. Although it is the most active dandruff shampoo (the most potent formula available without a prescription), it is also pH balanced and soft enough for daily use.
Another key feature of the Clinical Strength Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is the unique 3-Action formula from Head’s Shoulders. The three actions are: cleaning, protecting, and hydrating, and it works by reducing the size of zinc particles in the shampoo for better cleaning.
The action formula 3A also helps to create a full, creamy lather and better coverage over the entire scalp. It has all the cosmetic benefits of leading beauty shampoos when packaging a heavy anti-dandruff.
This shampoo is suitable for all hair types, including color or chemically treated hair. Again, they are good things, but you will love the way your hair looks and feels. And you will like to see how your dandruff problem disappears.
Once again, the people from Head Shoulders have been fighting dandruff for more than 50 years. Indeed, perhaps there is no other shampoo brand associated with Dandruff embossing as H & S. It is no wonder that it is the No. 1 dermatologist who uses dandruff shampoo.
- Combats dry scalp soothes itchy scalp and relieves irritation
- Soft and pH balanced for daily use on all hair types, even on colored or chemically treated hair
- Inexpensive and nice smelling
- If you don’t like the smell of Old Spice, you won’t like the smell of this shampoo
Questions & Answers
What scent does this shampoo have?
I'm not sure if you are asking is it heavy or light scented. Flowery or fruity? It definitely has a scent which I would describe as "clean" not chemical. I have allergies and would say I don't have the best "sniffer" but this scent does not offend me in any way.
Does this product have menthol?
Not that I know. It's not in the ingredients.
Is this the same and Head and Shoulders clinical solutions?
Yes and no. I have both at home and soon realized that they are almost exactly the same product. They both have 1% selenium sulfide. The only difference is in the area of ingredients in Clinical Solutions. It has a few other ingredients that Clinicak Strength does not have (Ee) peoerment oil and menthol and mentha arvensis leaf oil. They seem to be the only difference.
Does this shampoo have a conditioner? if not what conditioner do i use for my dermatitis? i need conditioner, i color my hair.. ty
I have purchased Head and Shoulders Classic Conditioner. Where this shampoo contains selenium sulfide as a clinical ingredient, the conditioner contains pyrithione zinc, which can also be effective in dermatitis. Pyrithon zinc is the ingredient in the traditional HandS shampoo. Amazon also sells HandS Itchy Scalp Conditioner which is more expensive, but it just has the Pyrithone zinc like the other conditioner. The only difference I could find between the two conditioners was odor.

Wonderful product. I have seborrheic dermatitis and saw a dermatologist a few years back. Instead of seeing the dermatologist regularly, I decided to try this and it is a miracle worker! Before, I'd itch my head for a half hour and leave sores all over my scalp. Now, I never scratch and have been using it for a couple months. Best of luck to you and God bless 🙂
Does mostly what I'd hoped! I had some pretty bad dry/flaky skin that followed my hairline above my forehead, and was also present under/around my sideburns. After about 2 weeks of using this shampoo (6-8 uses), those problem areas had disappeared, and have stayed gone as I've continued to use it.However, I had two other problem areas with flaky skin that this shampoo has not helped - my forehead, and eyebrows. I'd found reviews of this product and others where people discussed rubbing the shampoo into their eyebrows and other flaky areas but I've personally not had any success doing that. After further research, I discovered that not all skin on your body is the same... The ingredients in this product and others like it are specifically designed for your hair and skin on the scalp, and skin on other places like your forehead and eyebrows don't react and/or absorb those necessary ingredients the same way the scalp does, hence it not being as effective (for everyone). With that said, this product worked 100% for my dry/flaky scalp, hairline and sideburns but not the forehead or eyebrows. I'll have to find something else for those areas...Also, the smell is not as bad as some make it out to be. It definitely isn't your typical flowery, fruity smelling shampoo but it's not bad. Not sure why Head and Shoulders couldn't make it smell fruity though... Either way, 5/5 stars!
For well over a year now I have suffered from what I thought was just bad dandruff. I couldn't wear dark colors or run my hands through my hair, especially around the top of my ears or I would have large patches of dead skin all over my skin. Attractive I know! =/My hair dresser mentioned getting a dandruff shampoo but I went through 2 regular bottles with no luck.Once my scalp started getting really itchy I realized I probably had something more serious than dandruff. So after scouring the internet like I do for all of my medical advice 😉 I found an article about Seborrheic dermatitis and how this shampoo had helped tremendously. I figured I had the same thing as my symptoms were the same so I gave this a shot. Within 2 weeks of using this 3x week all of my dry patches went away. I no longer have an itchy scalp and I can finally run my fingers through my hair again without the fear of snow showers on my shoulders. If you have stubborn dandruff I would HIGHLY recommend this. I will be using it from now on.Oh and it makes my hair nice and soft too and the smell is definitely not over powering.
The product of Nizoral contains the active ingredient ketoconazole, which treats the fungal infection – the most common cause of severe and stubborn dandruff. If that is the problem, you will notice a remarkable difference after only using it a few times. Even if your flakes have another cause, this formula will bring improvement.
It’s an alternative to bumblebee with prescribed dandruff – much stronger than most freely available products.
This means, on the one hand, that it is probably the most effective solution for dandruff that you can get without a visit to the doctor, and it works equally well for all hair types.
Unlike other shampoos that rely on selenium sulfide or pyrithione zinc to remove dandruff, Nizoral relies on ketoconazole – a synthetic chemical compound. Use every few days (no more than twice a week).
Moreover, Nizoral is relatively gentle on your scalp and hair, especially when compared to some of the more aggressive shampoos with dandruff on the market.
This means that you should not experience any breakage of your hair follicles, nor should you have problems if you color your hair regularly.
In general, Nizoral is more of a clean or neutral scent that should not be too unpleasant.
On the other hand, the fragrance is described as medicinally and can be very dry. But if you’ve tried other options and you’re ready to get rid of dandruff once and for all, then this is guaranteed to get the job done, and that’s the first place.
- Proven active ingredients will remove dandruff
- The neutral odor is not unpleasant or sharp
- Offers great value considering the results
- Cannot be used daily
Questions & Answers
Is it true that hair fall will also increase?
No, Nizoral does not cause hair loss.
Would conditioner be ok to use with this product?
Yes, you can use a conditioner in between uses of Nizoral.
Has anyone used it for hair loss? Did it work?
I use it a part of my hair loss regiment. I've been using it for 3 years. The active ingredient Ketoconazole (1%) works to suppress the androgen receptor that is part of the process of testosterone conversion to DHT and its destructive effect on hair follicles. DHT binds the hair follicle receptors 5 times more than testosterone. It is thought that an abundance of DHT in hair follicle receptors can cause the follicles to shrink, leading to hair loss. Initially developed as a treatment for dandruff, psoriasis and Seborroheic Dermatitis, it was an effective solution for stopping DHT. It is not a panacea for hair loss. However, it is a great and proven option for hair loss treatment. It smells pleasantly good, does not feel greasy and there is no build-up. All you have to do is apply it three to five times a week to wet hair or as directed by your healthcare provider, and leave it on the scalp for five minutes and rinse your hair. For the best results you can also use a great shampoo scalp massage brush that stimulates blood flow to the scalp, promotes hair growth, massages your scalp and allows the shampoo to penetrate better into your hair follicle. It doesn't work overnight. But an important element that you will notice almost immediately is that you will lose less hair. In a period of three months you will find that your hair is thicker, fuller and just healthier. The final results are more likely to be visible within 12 to 18 months.
Do l use this after regular shampoo?
On the days that you do not use Nizoral, you can use your regular shampoo. It is not necessary to use another shampoo immediately before or after Nizoral. Nizoral makes your hair smell clean and fresh.

I actually bought this stuff to use as a face wash to help me with my acne. I've tried every face wash imaginable and also tried prescription face stuff and nothing would get rid of my acne :/ I only get acne on my chin, it's not very severe but it is constant and annoying (and I believe hormone related). I read online that using dandruff shampoo with "Ketaconazole" as the active ingredient as a face wash was really effective at getting rid of acne. I was skeptical, as I said I've tried everything from prescription creams, benzoyl peroxide, special face washes, natural products and oils and nothing seemed to work. This stuff surprisingly has cleared my face. I wash my face with this stuff in the morning and at night and let it sit for 1-2 minutes before washing off. Also, I moisturize with Vaseline on my face overnight (another acne relief miracle worker I read online--no it doesn't clog your pores). If you have acne I would suggest looking up this product and Vaseline uses as well, worked for me. Hopefully my routine continues to work. If it doesn't I will update!
So I have really curly hair and about a year ago I switched head and shoulders to devacurl products, but I noticed that I started to develop dandruff. I tried the home remedies, but couldn't keep them because I didn't feel like making the recipes. So I just said I'd forgotten about it and continued my drandruff life for about a year. Until someone recently pointed to my rose and I was SUPER embarrassed. 10 minutes later I went on the Amazon determined to finally get rid of this annoyance and I found this shampoo with really high ratings, so I decided why not. After about 2-3 uses, my rose was literally gone !! I really wish I had bought this earlier. So I use this shampoo and I still use my devacurl a condition and now I am dandruff. So if you're on the fence, trust me, just try it.
This stuff is absolutely amazing. I was one step away from going to the dermatologist. I had severe dandruff that was so bad I could shake my head and it would come off. With just a few uses per week, I got rid of all of my flakes. My scalp also stopped burning from dryness. My hair has never been healthier. (I bought this product using my own money. I was not paid or given anything free for this review. This is important to me when reading reviews so I thought I would mention it.)
I’ve had dandruff flare ups off and on my whole life. I tried this product with hope. It didn’t do anything as far as I could tell.So I researched the cause of dandruff recently and discovered there isn’t one cause, but many. Some are from dry skin; others from anxiety; and still others from a kind of bacteria that lives just beneath the top layer of skin.So I experimented with a variety of DIY at home solutions; going around with a greasy cream substance on my head (and transferred to my pillow) at night. What worked best for me was using over the counter triple antibiotic cream. I now believe my dandruff to be the kind caused by that just-under-the-skin bacteria; whatever it is, and will report my findings to my doctor so maybe, once and for all, some specific antibacterial product will kill off these little nuisances that cause my dandruff flareups.Best of luck to all with dandruff issues. I hope this product works for you, but if not, Google home remedies for dandruff, I’d still no luck try what I found works best: triple antibiotic cream from the drug store. If you notice any improvement, see your doctor and share your findings.

I'm not a huge review guy. I just rarely encounter a product that I'm so impressed with that I take the time to write one. This shampoo (I know, I'm writing a review for a shampoo of all things) is fantastic!!!I am picky when it comes to shampoo. I want it all. I want it to lather well, clean without being harsh, refresh, invigorate, and smell good. This one ticks all the boxes. I've tried Paul Mitchell, Every Man Jack, all the store brands.... this one is the best for me. IT cleans so well and leaves my hair soft and clean. My hair smells clean longer and my scalp is healthier. In short, it is a fantastic shampoo. I didn't receive a discount, I didn't get anything for free. I paid retail and feel that the purchase was an extremely good value.
If you are a man like me, you take showers. You may have been on the path of life for many years without knowing what you wanted. Allow me to relieve you if you want. I'll tell you what you want. You want to feel energized and rested while your male brain rolls through its thoughts under the relaxing water of the shower head. You want to feel as if your body and mind have been purified, as if by a mystical ritual performed by ancient monks. You want a shampoo that gives you a good and special feeling. This is that shampoo. I don't think you'll regret trying it
So we knew that many boys would wash their hair with everything that lied - usually what someone other than she bought and left in the shower. Some, shutter, won't even hesitate to use soap. If you fall into these categories, you shouldn't even read reviews about shampoo. Otherwise you are in the right place. This is a fantastic stuff if you only want to spend a little more than the Sua..v junk and solo salon-grade stuff. L Wonderful scent, it wakes up, your scalp feels fantastic. Get rid of the excess greasiness that I had without drying and good if you have to shower twice a day. Get some, your hair will thank you.

I never really paid much attention to the shampoo I used because I have my hair cut so shot because of the balding. I always just purchased the least expensive product at the grocery store. But, this shampoo sincerely makes my scalp feel 'alive and invigorated'. Smells great too....

This is a very nice anti-dandruff shampoo that laughs very well. My hair is cut very short (less than 1/4 "all the way), so a very small part goes far. In addition to good foaming, it cleans my hair nicely and occasionally keeps a small rose problem that I encounter during the dry winter The scent is very nice and subtle, the price is also very good, I buy this shampoo again and can easily give it 5 stars.
It seems like a good shampoo, but it leaves my head feeling dry, not for me. I don't think the product is bad. It just doesn't work for me.
I bought this for my son since Head and Shoulders was out of my budget for awhile. Works just as well so I will probably be buying this from now on.
Dove does it again for me. After only about a week of using it i could already see results with less flakes and am extremely satisfied with their products. I would recommend dove and their products to anybody. Not only does it help eliminate flakes, but it also has a good smell to it. I Love Dove men+ Care products
One of the most versatile products on this list is, without a doubt, Neutrogena T / Gel.
Put, this stuff can work to remove even the most stubborn cases of dandruff. From seborrheic dermatitis to psoriasis, this shampoo is almost perfect in clearing your hairline.
It is with good reason that this product is the best recommended dermatological brand in the US – it works, and it works well.
Unlike other brands that depend on pyrithione zinc or ketoconazole, Neutrogena relies on Coal Tar.
As good as Neutrogena T / Gel can be, the only complaint that men have about this product is the smell. Although difficult to pin down to a familiar scent – the best way to describe it is chemical.
Therefore, do not expect to smell a lumberjack or fresh product after using this product. This product is made to remove dandruff – nothing more.
If your scalp is persistent, we also recommend considering the extra strength of Neutrogena T / Gel (coal tar: 1.0%).
- # 1 Dermatologist advised the brand
- Strong results at an affordable price
- Extra strength can be focused on mold-based dandruff
- The smell is strong and unpleasant
Questions & Answers
Will it pass drug test?
It will, if not used in combination with crack and Merh.
Is it safe for color treated hair?
You have no worry; the product works in a normal way. It does not affect coloured treated hair. My hair is coloured and has been so for years.
Is this safe for colored hair? I have blonde highlights
Not entirely sure, but I would like to test a small part of your highlights to see if this affects it.
Does it have cold minty sensation?
No at all

Smells a little like a cheap dog flea shampoo mixed with a coal mine and made in a barn and tested on horses hair. BUT this is the softest my hair has ever felt and my head finally got instant relief. Not going to go in for a romp with the hubs tonight because I smell like the backside of a yeti. Once a week at the most is how much I'll be using this bad boy. Oh and probably a good idea to lights some candles, wash with some better smelling shampoo and conditioner after wards and then roll in a field of mint because YOU WILL STINK. It's just the price you pay for this amazing stuff.
Like many of the other 5-star reviews here, my psoriasis covered scalp has almost completely disappeared after twice use and less than a week. The red sores have almost disappeared and I no longer have flakes or dandruff. Smell is a little weird, but I take it for granted.
I have had seborrheic dermatitis for most of my life and I have spent tons of money on prescription shampoos from dermatologists but I always had those disgusting scales on my scalp. Nothing helped me.Then my sister recommended T/Gel to me saying that it might help me and since I started using it my scalp has been clean, not even a spot of dandruff.10/10 would recommend, I'm sorry for not knowing about it earlier. I would be lost without it.
After giving birth to my daughter, my scalp started having itchy problem and lots of dandruff. I have used different types of shampoo and Dr. Rx shampoo but nothing worked. This product I found at a drug store was one of those desperate times hoping to stop the itch. I felt the difference right after the first shampoo. My scalp was clean and relieved. Oh what a feeling of joy after 2 years having the constant itch! I have been using this shampoo in the last 2 years and I am happy with no itchy scalp.
Maple Holistics is an American company dedicated to providing natural products for care and healthy living, and you will not find a better organic dandruff shampoo for men than their Sage Shampoo for anti-dandruff.
How has the treatment of Maple Holistics increased without using the ingredients that are most commonly used to cope with it?
Answer: by charging their anti-dandruff shampoo with natural ingredients that treat the symptoms of dandruff on many levels.
The main ingredient in this shampoo, as the name implies, is sage. Sage has anti-inflammatory and fungicidal properties that make it ideal for the eradication of dandruff before it gets out of control. It even offers a natural advantage for people who are dealing with hair loss.
The ingredient list of the Maple Holistics Sage Shampoo also contains rosemary, which stimulates the hair follicles and, while working in combination with tea tree oil, removes dead skin cells from the scalp and removes the hair follicles.
Tea tree oil has the added benefit of being a natural antiseptic – which also reduces dandruff-causing bacteria.
There are also jojoba and argan oil, which work together to restore moisture to your hair and ensure that it does not get frizzy and damaged.
What you can not find in this shampoo are harsh ingredients such as sulfates and parabens, while all Maple Holistics products are pet-friendly and vegan-friendly animals.
What’s also lovely about Maple Holistics Sage Shampoo is its mild, spicy scent. Although the smell is not subtle, he also has no force majeure.
Finally, everything comes with a money-back guarantee. If you do not like it, send it back and receive a full refund.
- Free from parabens, phthalates, odors, and sulfates
- Fast results
- Not good for colored hair
- If you stop using it, the itch and dandruff will return immediately

I am one of those people who never write product reviews. In reality, I place a number of Amazon orders every week and never view one of those products. Until today. Until about 6 weeks ago I have never had problems with dandruff or a dry, itchy scalp; I'm talking about big, embarrassing flakes that just wouldn't go away. I don't know what the cause was. We've had some crazy up-and-down weather where I live in the south, so maybe that has something to do with my scalp problems. In any case, I did some research on Amazon and saw that this shampoo had wonderful reviews, so I ordered it. I wash my hair only every other day - FYI. This shampoo came on a Thursday and I used it on Friday, expecting the results to take a few washes. No! After ONE wash (I scrubbed my scalp a little more than usual, and left it for a few minutes longer because it was the first time I was using this shampoo), I don't have any flakes! Today was my off-day and although I see a little bit of dryness, still no flakes. I expect that while I continue to use this product, my problems with dry scalp will all disappear. This also does not stink like the popular rose shampoo. It has a really fresh, herbaceous scent that I still smelled when I woke up on the 2nd day. Also on this second day my hair was still very clean, did not get as greasy as normal, and was very soft and manageable. I usually use BigSexyHair, but I think I will alternate this to make my hair look healthy. I am so happy with this, especially for the price. I also consider ordering some of their other varieties! Thank you, Maple Holistics!
This product really helped my daughter's scalp, I immediately saw a difference, I left it on his hair for about 3 minutes while massaging her scalp, looking her hair and scalp and looking very healthy without leaving the flakes dermatitis, and it spelled well that I would definitely recommend this product, I also followed it with tea tree conditioner
My daughter and I,were not as impressed by this product,as I wanted us both to be. I think it’s probably an effective remedy for dandruff.Although, this product is sulfate-free,and has more natural ingredients compared to store bought brands, I personally felt that this shampoo was too drying for my hair, possibly due to there being quite a few sodium ingredients. For some that have a coarser hair texture, the extra sodium may prove to be a bit harsh and drying. A great conditioner is a good after thought, to using this sage shampoo.
The removal of dandruff should not be a complicated process.

They have the regular clear still I believe and I love it
Did they recently change the formula? I've been using this product for years because it makes my hair silky and smooth but lately both the shampoo and conditioner feel more watery, and my hair isn't as smooth and silky.
They recently changed the formula to add coconut milk ... I loved the smell of it, but now I'm not a big fan of the new formula
Can this be used for kids?
Depends on age
How can the Clear for Men, 12.9 oz cost $49.99? When it was available at retail, it was about $5.00
because buyers have bid the price of this hard to find discontinued item upward significantly. hope this answers your question.

This shampoo does what I need to do it. Even with the hard water in my shower. I'm still figuring out; why this shampoo is so hard to find in most Midtown, NYC stores. Last year; it was on so many shelves; that it gave HEAD & SHOULDERS a run for its money. Now; except that I'm on AMAZON, I have to go to stores on Ninth Avenue (west side of Manhattan), to a DUANE READE, to buy a bottle. No thanks! I stay with AMAZON and my PRIME membership.
I needed some more anti-dandruff shampoo, and with a coupon at the time, this stuff was really cheap, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was pleasantly surprise to find this has a nice scent and feels more like using a high quality shampoo than most dandruff shampoos. The standard stuff works fine, but it always felt like anti-dandruff first, and shampoo as an afterthought. I don't like strong scents, but the scent here is fairly subtle and natural, and it also works just as well for dandruff as other shampoos I've tried. I've found my new shampoo.
Over the years I have bought many rose shampoos and have never been satisfied. Or they were too weak, leaving my scalp dry and itchy, or greasy and unmanageable. Finally (I have found a dandruff shampoo that cleans my hair, leaves my scalp without side effects. I highly recommend it.
If you want an uncompromising shampoo for the quality of the salon, which also dilutes as a deterrent to dandruff, then this American Crew shampoo is probably your name.
It contains the same active ingredient in Shove Men + Care and Head’s Shoulders shampoo, this American Crew product is based on Pyrithione Zinc.
This means that the soap performs on an equal footing with the other big brands with anti-fungicidal properties.
What sets this shampoo apart is that it also contains a wide range of essential oils.
A particularly noteworthy topic is the inclusion of rosemary. If your scalp is oily due to the overproduction of sebum oil on your sebaceous glands, the rosemary helps to reduce production and hope you keep your dandruff under control.
If you still want to have a great haircut, then this American Crew shampoo is a perfect match. Ingredients of salon-quality with a touch of dandruff control make this good for the treatment of mild dandruff.
- A trusted brand that makes shampoos in the US
- Contains extra essential oils for extra hair benefits
- One of the best smelling shampoos too
- Maybe not as effective as other brands (but still good)
Questions & Answers
Does this help oily scalp?
Hello Mariam! Yes, this helps with oily scalp by controlling sebum production. 🙂
Since it has conditioning properties, should you use conditioner with this shampoo?
You do not need; but i like to use a conditioner after using this product. It is my personal preference, this product works great anyway
Whats the difference between this one and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/b00hcgd7vy/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=utf8&psc=1&smid=atvpdkikx0der
No idea - check with Amazon.
Is there a difference between crew anti-dandruff shampoo and anti-danruff plus sebum control shampoo?
Sorry I do not know. Take a look at the manufacturer's website.

I have used many brands of rose shampoo, but I think I will continue to do so in the near future. The most important thing I like about this shampoo is that it does not dry out my hair and adds unnecessary volume, such as head and shoulders. The only negative thing I have to say about the shampoo is that it looks and smells like a white drug I took it in the nineties. American Crew should make it smell better.
I have tried a few American Crew products in the past and always loved the smell of them. To me, this one is very disappointing. Theis shampoo smells medicinal and is not very pleasant in my opinion. I like the smell of the much cheaper Suave for Men than I do this high end product. Same active ingredient. I expected more from this product.
Nice rosemary smell, keeps dandruff away really well. My hair is almost completely removed of oil when done. Recommend a conditioner after. Other products say they act as well as this but they don’t, this was well worth the buy.
I used to have really bad eczema and dandruff on my scalp, and it was really a big deal for me. The use of this shampoo has really helped to solve that.

I have waited three years to post this review. This is perhaps the best rose-rose shampoo on the market for people with moderate to severe dandruff like me. The only review I read was from Joel S. Perry and I am so grateful that I listened to it all those years ago because I am literally flaking and 99% itch free. I have also had dandruff from an early age - 3rd grade. I screamed furiously at the back of my head one day and my teachers brought me to the nurse to check for lice - to their relief it was only dandruff. I would scratch my scalp until it bled, so I took it upon myself to try everything in the drugstore: Nizoral, Selsun Blue extreme, Neutrogena T-Gel and don't let me start with Head & Shoulders! (Is that a joke?) I was so desperate that I poured vinegar (not diluted) all over my head and I had itching for a week! But it never worked again and I couldn't get a scent from my hair for days. Then I came across this page and since then I use Jason shampoo regularly - with the exception of a 3-month hiatus because I was foolish and thought my condition was 'cured'. But that was a coincidence and my itch came back, so I decided to use the shampoo at least 2-3 times a week. I have discovered a way to smell the scent, because even after all these years I STILL smell it and it is not pleasant. My method: the shampoo spreads better when my scalp is already wet, so I always do a quick rinse with a small amount of regular shampoo. Then I take small amounts and work on different parts of my scalp, rub it until the entire scalp is properly covered. However, if you have long hair like me and you want to minimize the sulfur odor, then ONLY apply that to your SCALP! It only works on dandruff, so applying to the rest of your hair is a waste and unnecessary! I also use lukewarm to cold water, not hot. For the rest of my hair I use a conditioner or a strongly perfumed shampoo (Irish spring or one of the men's shampoos), because when I spray the rose shampoo I want the rest of my hair to catch the scent. I leave it on for a minimum of 10-15 minutes, no exceptions! It needs time to work on your scalp, especially if it's your first time. Turn it on properly before getting into the shower / bath if you take less than 10 minutes. At the end of the shower, I rinse the Jason shampoo and use a conditioner on my scalp to hydrate my hair and also get rid of some of the odor. For some that is enough and the scent that remains is hardly noticeable. However, it is not enough for me, so I apply Moroccan oil, a light body spray / perfume in my hair, blow it and I am good for the day. If you are hesitant, give a bottle a chance - I 've got all my friends and their children addicted to it. It is definitely worth every penny!
I like the Jason products a lot. I have thick, curly, course hair, and it causes me to have dry scalp. I have a lot of trouble trying to get shampoo and conditioner rinsed out all the way. The Jason dandruff shampoo helps keep the irritation on my scalp at a minimum. I loved the original formulation of the product, but I can't say I like the new version. It's very thick and gunky. Just getting it out of the bottle is hard and frustrating. Getting as much out as I need is even harder. It's like trying to shake peanut butter out of the bottle. I add water and shake up the bottle. That provides a temporary fix, but I have to do that literally every time I wash my hair. I would say while the old formula was a 5-star, the new formula is just a 3-star.

Both of these dandruff shampoos are excellent products in my opinion. There seems to be many negative reviews stating some confusing things however. To clear some of this up - there are 2 different shampoos being sold on the same page. The first - (Shampoo only) - a sulphur based, thick, cream colored , stinky , original formula. The second - (2 in 1 - Shampoo and conditioner) - a zinc based, thinner, white, pleasant smelling(apples?), newer formula. Both work well when used as suggested for suggested purposes.Hope this clears up much of the confusion.Just make sure you're purchasing the 1 that You want.(Shampoo) vs (2 in 1) shampoo plus conditioner.------------ ------
Selsun Blue has been around for years. Together with Head & Shoulders, it is one of the first brands that many men think of when they consider one of the best dandruff shampoos for men.
In the royal blue color 11oz. The container, you will find some high antifungal properties in their shampoo.
This dandruff shampoo will not only do an excellent job in warding off seborrheic dermatitis, but it will also help to reduce the recurrence.
Unlike the Dove Men + Care shampoo, which also contains a conditioner, Selsun Blue is absent in this secondary function. Therefore, you also want to ensure that you also purchase a quality improvement device.

How long do you have to leave it in for?
I personally left it in my hair for the amount of time it took to wash my body from the neck down and then bring my body down. I'd say give it to your hair for at least 5 to 10 minutes, it will feel very cool at the same time

Great for sunspots. This heals Tinea Versicolor. Lazy to look up if I spelled it correctly. Seriously keeps me free from that for years. It was recommended by a dermatologist in 2004 and I have not been back to see her since.
If you have issues with hair loss or scalp problems or even acne/demodex then try this version of Selsun Blue with the sulfur in it. It doesn't strip your hair, which surprised me.
This is the only shampoo that works for my seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp - 3 washes and it is completely gone! Use this for 5 years now and it would change for nothing!
The Difference Between Regular Shampoo and Anti-dandruff Shampoo
If you think regular shampoo can solve your dandruff problem, think again.
At best, it can hydrate your hair, make it look softer or fuller, and smell good.
What it can not do is solve your dandruff problem because it’s just not designed for it.
Regular shampoos contain detergents similar to those in dishwashing detergents or detergents.
They can remove the natural sebum from your hair, making it easier to get damaged.
Other things you can find in regular shampoos are conditioning and protective agents, such as sunscreen.
Logically, they protect your hair from harmful UV rays, heat damage, and blowpipes.
On the other hand, anti-dandruff shampoos contain many anti-dandruff, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial ingredients and act as scrubbing agents.
That’s precisely what you need for dandruff or dermatitis.
FAQ About dandruff Shampoos
An anti-dandruff shampoo that worked for your friend may not be suitable for you. That’s because they’re made with different ingredients that process different types of dandruff. The names of these ingredients may sound like nuclear physics, but they are not real. Once you’ve found the cause of your dandruff, choosing the right shampoo is much more comfortable. Shampoos with selenium sulfide, zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, and tea tree oil successfully treat fungi such as seborrheic dermatitis and Malassezia. For those men who have very oily skin but do not have a fungal infection, coal tar is the most effective because it helps slow the accumulation of dead skin cells, making dandruff less dandruff. If you are still in a dilemma that shampoo is right for you, you should go to your doctor or hair care professional. The story of an old woman we saw again and again in our research was an exclamation that dandruff was a sign of puberty. However, this is one of those cases where correlation does not imply a causal relationship. During puberty, the body has an increase in oil production through your sebaceous glands (source). This increased oil production can cause scalp accumulation, resulting in dandruff. Dandruff is a by-product of the changes that your body goes through during puberty. Some of the anti-dandruff shampoos are too hard and can damage or dry your hair. That said, they should not be used more than 2-3 times a week. Others, on the other hand, can be used every day. Keep this in mind, especially when choosing shampoos with coal tar. If you use them every day, it can lead to irritation of the scalp. In any case, you will find instructions and a list of ingredients on the label of each anti-dandruff shampoo. The essential thing in the fight against dandruff is to be consistent in the use of anti-dandruff shampoos. Most of them show the first results after only one week. Some men stop after that; they have noticed that dandruff has diminished a bit. Because that’s not how dandruff shampoo works, a break of a week or two will cause the results to fade, and dandruff will come back. This is when men think the shampoo has not done what the label said, not because they did not use it properly. Most shampoos lose their effectiveness after a few months. That is the time to switch. Another good idea would be to combine the shampoo with some great anti-dandruff conditioner. In situations where dandruff shampoo dehydrates your hair – which often occurs – a conditioner will add moisture, making your hair and scalp healthier. The answer is fairly simple – the same way as any other shampoo. There is no specific technique for applying anti-dandruff shampoo. It must be done thoroughly. Otherwise, you risk skin irritation.
